Climate Adaptive Qualities
Climate Adaptive Qualities
Another heirloom bean that is delicious dried and then made as baked beans or in soups and stews (see also Arikara Yellow). Round black-and-white seeds are also called "Orca" or "Ying Yang" beans. :) They are fun to look. When they are cooked the black turns into a deep pink (much like a kidney bean) and the turns pale but the contrast in the bean is still there. This is a bush variety of bean and grows to about 15 inches. It averages 4-5 seeds per pod. Very adaptable to different growing zones. This is the cutest bean on either side of the Mississippi.
Directions:
Directly sow beans outdoors after any danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed. Support with a fence, trellis, bamboo teepee, or corn stalk.
Annual.
Maturity: 80-90 days
Germination: 8-10 days
Planting depth: 2"
Spacing: 36-48"
Light: Full Sun
