Climate Adaptive Qualities
Purple de Milpa (Physalis ixocarpa) is a small Tomatillo but it certainly is the tastiest (imho). They are about 3/4" in diameter and purple-tinged fruits on 3-4 feel tall plants. They are prolific, so one plant will yield quite a few tomatillos. This Tomatillo does not burst through the husk when ripe so often you will need to peel back the husk slightly to see if the tomatillo has ripened. It is so worth it. It grows wild in Mexican and Central American corn fields so you know there are plenty of tasty recipes that this can be used in, particularly as a sauce over enchiladas. These plants are self-supporting so there is no need to trellis or stake the plant.
