Directions: Sow outdoors 1 week before last frost. They need a bit of a cold snap to start the growth. Cover only lightly with soil as they also need light to germinate.

Uses for this Plant

Climate Adaptive Qualities

Black Hollyhocks are a flowering tower of gorgeousness. My grandfather grew hollyhocks outside the windows of their home so that my grandmother had flowers to look at when she was inside. John Parkinson described black hollyhocks in 1929 as a "darke red like blacke cloud." The flowers do appear black on darker days, but mostly in the sunshine they appear to be silky bright and burgundy. These are a self-seeding biennial that grow 5-6 feet tall.

Germination: 10-14 days
Plant Spacing: 18-36"
Height: 5 - 6 feet
Light: Full Sun to Partial Shade

TIP: Hollyhocks do not bloom the first year, just be patient a the second year after planting they bloom gloriously. If your hollyhocks grow very tall you will need to stake them. Also read up on using sulfur with hollyhocks to improve blooms.

We sell small batches because we think it's important to try a bunch
of different types of plants in your garden, and in your climate,
to see what is beneficial.

Our seeds are harvested fresh every Fall when we make small batches to sell. We also source fresh seeds for the year from local farmers, seed banks, and non-gmo organically grown suppliers.

THAT MEANS:
• Non-GMO
• USA grown
• Open-pollinated
• Untreated (no fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, etc.)
• Tested to meet the highest germination standards
